Kayla Alsagoff

Gemma Aque

received her bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Marcos in 2011. She majored in Liberal Studies and minored in Sociology. Her past experiences include working with children and youth as an Activity Leader for Harmonium and as an intern for North County Serenity House which serves women and women with children experiencing alcohol and substance use. Gemma is currently in her final year of the MSW program at San Diego State University (SDSU) and will be interning at the Step Up program at the Consensus Organizing Center (COC). Her duties will include recruiting youth, mentoring Step Up participants, supervising teaching assistants, and overseeing the daily operations of the program.

Kayla Alsagoff

Kaitlyn Dixon

is an alumna of Brigham Young University, earning her B.A. in English. She is currently in the Masters of Social Work program, planning to pursue a clinical career. Kaitlyn is interning with the Economic Crisis Response Team at SDSU. She has previous experience in the fields of family services, crisis intervention, and out-of-home care.

Kayla Alsagoff

Angel Flores

is from Pico Rivera, California. He is a transfer student from San Diego City College and is currently a Senior in the BASW program. Angel previously volunteered his time with the COC’s Step Up program and is now continuing the movement of empowering inner city youth to make changes within their community as a current intern at the COC. He believes mentoring and fostering educational growth in today’s youth, is an investment in everyone’s future. He has a great interest in working with war veterans, their families, and the whole military community. Angel is the first generation in his family to attend college and wishes to continue his path to becoming a social worker by attending grad school after completion of his undergrad.

Emerald Ramos-Pacanza

is a senior of the BASW program at SDSU and intern with the COC’s Foster Youth Initiative. She is currently the 2016-2017 fundraising and event planning chair for the Undergraduate Social Work Association, which is a student led organization at SDSU. She is a volunteer at the Promise2Kids foundation, a leading advocate in the issue of abuse and neglect in San Diego County, providing emergency shelter for abused and neglected children and organizing events that encourage foster sibling interaction. Emerald is eager to assist the COC with their Foster Youth Initiative program which works to cultivate community leaders by providing the opportunity for high school foster youth to learn valuable consensus organizing skills through an introductory social work course at SDSU. She is passionate about advocating for underserved youth and aspires to assist them on their paths to success by providing resources that make their goals achievable. In the future, Emerald hopes to attend the MSW program and then pursue a career serving underprivileged youth.
