Jennifer Cosio, MSW, PPSC

Jennifer Cosio earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work, with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, at San Diego State University (SDSU). In 2004, Ms. Cosio applied to the Price Community Builder Program, a former program of the Consensus Organizing Center, and was selected. This competitive program provided Consensus Organizing training, hands-on administrative social work and community development experience in the City Heights community, and a generous scholarship for graduate school. Upon her MSW graduation in 2008, Ms. Cosio was hired at the Consensus Organizing Center to manage the Rise Up Program. A few years later, she was promoted to Senior Program Manager where she managed all the higher education programs, which include the Rise Up and the Step Up Program. Ms. Cosio serves as the lead organizer and has trained numerous individuals in Consensus Organizing throughout the nation . In addition, she has over 10 years of grantwriting and fund development experience. In July 2015, Ms. Cosio became the third Executive Director in the Consensus Organizing Center’s history. She is also a lecturer, Undergraduate Advisor, and Alumni Liaison in the School of Social Work at SDSU. Finally, Ms. Cosio is a SDSU Faculty-In-Residence where she lives on campus with her family, and utilizes her social work and community organizing skills to develop and implement programming for students in the residential community to create a sense of belonging and connectedness to the university.


Dr. Jessica Robinson, MSW

Lead Trainer
A triple alumna from San Diego State University (SDSU), Dr. Jessica Robinson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work, a Master of Social Work degree with an administration concentration, and a Doctor of Education degree in educational leadership with a community college specialization. Dr. Robinson has an impressive 16-year history in higher education with positions held in both student and academic affairs. These positions have included administration, program development, and grant writing with a focus on at-risk and underserved populations. Dr. Robinson is known for her work with creating a highly successful college-going program for youth in foster care while serving as the Executive Director of the Consensus Organizing Center at SDSU. In addition to this work, Jessica served as social work faculty, as the Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator, and the Undergraduate Advisor in the School of Social Work at SDSU. Most recently, Jessica worked as the Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at SDSU. This rich combination of experiences in both student and academic affairs leadership has allowed her to further strengthen the collaboration between student services and instruction and advance high education strategic priorities. Currently, Dr. Robinson serves as the Vice President of Student Services at Cuyamaca College. In addition to her educational and professional experiences, Dr. Robinson is best known for her leadership assets including her ability to empower and mobilize groups into action toward a common goal of providing access and success to the most vulnerable students. She has been described as a steadfast, loyal, compassionate, reliable, efficient, spirited and optimistic leader.


Drew Lautemann, JD, LLM

Drew Lautemann received his Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 2009 and his Master of Laws degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2010. A native of Woodson, Illinois, Drew moved to San Diego to study law after his undergraduate studies at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. As a Program Manager with the Consensus Organizing Center from 2009-2014, Drew created Legal Path and A.I.M. for Law, two programs to educate first-generation and inner-city students about the legal profession and motivate them to pursue careers in the law. In June 2014, Drew became the Pro Bono & Public Service Coordinator at California Western School of Law, but he remains connected with the COC through his work with A.I.M. for Law and teaching the course Community Organizing & Problem Solving at SDSU.


Melanie Mashburn, MSW

College Workshop Coordinator

Step Up Program College Workshop Coordinator Melanie Mashburn interned for the Step Up Program at the Consensus Organizing Center (COC) as the Program Manager for the 2018-2019 academic year. Her duties included recruiting youth, mentoring Step Up participants, supervising teaching assistants, and overseeing the daily operations of the program. As the College Workshop Coordinator, Melanie is excited to continue the work and mission of the COC to cultivate community leaders. In addition, she graduated with her MSW in Admin/Community Development. Since completing her degree, she has also been working for The San Diego Foundation as their Community Scholarships Administrator. At the San Diego Foundation, Melanie supports with providing scholarship
opportunities for local students to help pursue their educational goals and achieve their higher education dreams.
