Lydia Soto

Lydia Soto, MSW Intern

Lydia is a proud Chicana and first-generation college graduate pursuing her Master of Social Work (MSW) at San Diego State University through the Advanced Standing Program. She earned her BSW in 2025 after transferring from San Diego City College. Her experience includes supporting students at Barrio Logan College Institute with college readiness, leading leadership workshops, and organizing a community service fair. Currently, Lydia works with the Consensus Organizing Center, where she provides mentorship and guidance to BSW interns in the Step-Up Program. Passionate about administration and community development, Lydia strives to create systemic change through policy and advocacy. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Kylee Kyte

Kylee Kyte, BSW Intern

Kylee is currently a senior in the BSW program at San Diego State University, and she is honored to be interning for the Consensus Organizing Center and the Step Up program. Originally from Salt Lake City, Kylee is excited to get to know San Diego’s vibrant community even better through working with the student population of Hoover High School. Accessible education has been a passion of Kylee’s for several years, and she is excited to bring her educational experience from working at the North American Museum of Ancient Life and as a theatre teacher to her time as an intern. In her free time, you can find Kylee cooking, camping, or curled up with a book.

Alexa Solano

Alexa Solano, BSW Intern

Alexa Solano is a transfer student from Southwestern College and is in her final year of undergraduate studies. As a proud first-generation college student, she is passionate about pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work and Human Services after graduation. Alexa is excited to be part of the Consensus Organizing Center as an intern, where she can build hands-on experience working with youth — the population she hopes to serve as a future school social worker. Her long-term goal is to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and continue making a positive impact in education and the community. She is especially motivated by the opportunity to empower young people and help them navigate challenges both inside and outside the classroom. When she’s not studying or working, Alexa enjoys painting, going on long walks, and exploring new coffee shops (always on the hunt for the perfect latte).

David Acevedo

David Acevedo, BSW Intern

David Acevedo grew up in City Heights after immigrating from Mexico at a young age and attending Hoover High School. At 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a rifleman. After his service, he built a career in the trades as a journeyman lather, welder, and foreman while raising a family. Now a senior at San Diego State University, completing his bachelor’s degree in Social Work, David is committed to giving back to the community that raised him and mentoring young people through his work with the COC and the Step Up Program. His journey reflects resilience, service, and a deep commitment to creating hope for the next generation. When he's not at school, David is a devoted husband and father to three young adults. In his free time, he enjoys playing various musical instruments, including the guitar and drums.
